David Teniers el Joven (15 de Diciembre de 1610 - 25 de Abril de 1690
Born in Antwerp, the son of David Teniers Juliaen and grandson of painters by trade. His early works show the influence of his father and, above all, the great Rubens.
Teniers became the prototype of the genre painter, so sought after and well paid by the bourgeoisie of his time. And that paints the background of society that meets in bars, living and drinking, smoking and chatting, who jokes, have fun and criticize the bad times. The viewer always painted ironic without being involved in the scene, which separates him comfortable and prosperous existence. Hence, perhaps, those people who constantly look out a window to watch the main theme of painting and are, almost, his signature.
In 1637 he married Anna Brueghel, Brueghel the Younger daughter and granddaughter of the great Brueghel. He lived in the house of the wife who had belonged to her father. During that time Teniers set up his easel and brushes outside, and shot the peasants in their natural environment. Entered the self-portrait and landscape, but always away from the mob.
In 1645 Teniers becomes valet, painter and curator of the splendid collection of paintings by the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria, and later became the official painter of many major European, like Queen Christina of Sweden and Philip IV of Spain, which will be one of your best customers.
In 1644 he founded the Academy of Antwerp. No exact date of death of Teniers or the circumstances in which it was involved, some people said he committed suicide in 1690 commonly accepted date.
