Kent R. Wallis born January 10, 1945, in Ogden, Utah
Kent Wallis, born January 10, 1945, in Ogden, Utah, began his formal art endeavors rather late compared to most other artists. He worked for six years in the fields of marketing and finance before changing career directions. In 1975 he moved his family to Logan, Utah, and opened an artist supply store to allow him to spend his full time and energies painting. There is a private charm, a pure and quiet delight in Kent Wallis’ work that speaks of simple, unrequited love of color and form. Self-taught, his development as an artist was instinctive, his use of color and composition lend themselves to an incredible beauty which reflects intensity, and yet, a gentle inspirational calm and strength. As he states, . . . .“through the years what really excites me is color, particularly color mixed with sunlight. I can’t seem to paint fast enough to catch all the beauty.” Painting for me comes from the heart, not the head. Emotion communicates.” Kent has received numerous awards during his career. He was elected a member of the Northern California Society of Plein Air Painters, a member of the Society of Plein Air Artists of America, and a member of the Society of American Impressionists in 1989. His work is highly collected and he is represented by galleries in Scottsdale,Arizona, Carmel and Palm Desert,California, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Dallas,Texas, Hilton Head, South Carolina, andBend, Oregon.
